It's Been Far To Long

Hello again.

Over the timespan of my entire college career, I have been out of touch with the blogging world. In the 4 years that I have procrastinated about updating my blog, I haven't been letting many know of any updates in my photography career. Well, I have been busy getting my degree, assisting professionals, and constructing my first photography gallery.

I recently purchased a new camera body: the Canon 5D Mark III. It is awesome. The camera has undoubtedly helped me push my work to the next level and allowed me to capture images I would have never thought possible. The following are a compiled group of random images that I thought you would enjoy as much as I have...

Finally Started Shooting Sports Again

So since I've moved into college in late September, its been a good 2 months since I last shot sports. I knew immediately that I was rusty because it took me 20 minutes to set up the lighting.I don't usually shoot skateboarding because all of my friends BMX, but my roommate Joey is pretty good at it so the both of us decided to do some late night shooting this past Wednesday night at our school. The spot wasn't too special, but I think the both of us had fun while we were there. No cops, bitchy old ladies, or teachers yelling at us to "stop destroying school property." That's the session I wish we could always have. Anyway, here are a couple photos from that night and the setup that I used.

Below is the setup for the shots. I used a Canon Rebel Xti, an 18-55mm lens, and two Canon Speedlites with the left one set to 1/4 power and the right one set to 1/8 power. Both flashes triggered with Pocket Wizards.

Roommate Photo Shoot

Well I have officially settled down and am now used to the "college lifestyle." After having met my new roommates, and got a feel for their personalities and how they are I thought it would be cool to do individual portraits of all of us in our living room.

The lighting setup was very simple; one flash above and to the left of each person with a 45" silver lined umbrella. I tacked up a black backdrop so our black shirts would fade into the background, and here are some of the results that I came up with.

One Fun Day

So today marks the two day period before my best friend Kylie's 16th birthday. Since, she is going to be with her family the day of, I decided to hang out with her today and give her her surprise birthday gift. It was a framed portrait of her dog Maggie that luckily for me, she really liked :] I still am hanging out at her house and just finished watching her favorite movie, The Grinch with her. This will be the last time that I am going to hang out with her before I move, so it's a good thing that we're having a really good time. I'll miss you Kylie and look forward to seeing you again when I come back for winter break.

This is the photo that I shot of her dog Maggie on the backdrop at my house. The only way I could get her to pose for me was to dangle deli meat above my head. One of the hardest shoots I've had to do for a while, but well worth it.

One flash set up on either side of the dog shot with 45" reflective umbrella. Triggered with Pocket Wizards.

Insomnia

I hate not being able to sleep! I'm tired as hell, and yet I just lay in bed looking up at the ceiling. How can I stop restless nights without sleeping pills?

Just Because I Can't Shoot Them, Doesn't Mean I Can't Appreciate Them

Even though I've been seriously into photography for about 2 years now, I still suck at shooting cars, and I haven't gotten any better; trust me, I've tried. For some reason unknown to me, the pictures just end up looking terrible and nothing like I want them to, probably because I expect them to look like I shot them in a 1,000 square foot studio with $80,000 worth of lights do use as I see fit. Just because I can't shoot nice cars, doesn't mean I still can't appreciate nice photos from other photographers that actually know how to. So here are just a couple nice shots that I wish I could be proud to say that I shot.
